From 2027, solar modules below 630W will be banned from sale in China

Attention: Countdown for phasing out low-efficiency PV modules has begun.

Effective January 1, 2027, China prohibits the sale of Solar modules with power output under 630W

China will implement three mandatory national standards for the photovoltaic industry starting January 1, 2027, marking a critical step in eliminating low-efficiency, high-energy-consumption production capacity.

Key Policy Updates

1. Minimum Power Requirement

   • 630W Threshold: From 2027, PV modules below 630W (1134mm×2382mm size at 23.2% efficiency) will be banned from sale.

   • Efficiency Tiers:

     ◦ TOPCon/HJT: Minimum 23.2% efficiency (Grade 3)

     ◦ BC: Minimum 23.5% efficiency (Grade 3)

2. Silicon Production Energy Limits

   • Polysilicon (SiHCl₃ method): Current 7.05 kgce/kg must reduce to ≤6.4 kgce/kg.

   • Silane Fluidized Bed: Threshold raised from 4.55 to 5.0 kgce/kg.

Industry Impact

• 30% Capacity at Risk: Polysilicon plants failing to meet ≤6.4 kgce/kg will face shutdown.

• Bifacial Requirements:

  • TOPCon: ≥75% bifaciality

  • HJT: ≥85% bifaciality
